Antabuse

Antabuse (disulfiram) is a drug prescribed to help patients diagnosed with chronic alcoholism to battle their addiction. Naturally, while taking Antabuse you are not supposed to drink alcoholic beverages or use any products that contain alcohol. If you drink alcohol anyway the following symptoms will most probably appear and last for at least an hour: blurred vision, flushing of the face, chest pain, nausea, weakness, breathing vomiting, sweating, choking, difficulty, anxiety, headache, and mental confusion. Such mild side effects of Antabuse as acne, drowsiness, skin rash, tiredness, metallic taste in the mouth, impotence, and mild headache do not need to be reported to your doctor unless they start to be really bothersome and prevent you from doing the everyday tasks. Be very careful when you apply any products that contain alcohol – you don’t have to eat or drink something to get Antabuse effects, as even using lotions, colognes and other skin products may cause headache, nausea, itching, local redness and some other symptoms. You will probably be required to carry an identification card around stating that you are using Antabuse.
